    Chatham Chooses Illinois State

    Thursday, January 19, 2012

Glendora, CA (Football) -- Citrus College sophomore Kelvin Chatham chose Illinois State University early last week to continue his education and football career. Chatham became the second Owl from the 2011 team that will early enroll this spring at a four-year university.

“I chose Illinois State because the coaches made me feel comfortable. It felt like home, and they wanted me for who I am,” Chatham said. “Citrus has played a major role in helping me get here. They gave me a second chance to continue to play football. Coming out of high school I wasn’t ready academically, and they helped me get to that place. I owe a lot to the whole coaching staff, as well as faculty and staff at Citrus.”

Chatham had a stellar 2011 campaign, catching 49 passes for a team high 724 yards and nine touchdowns. His nine scores tied the program record for most TD receptions in a season. Chatham earned 2nd team All-West Conference honors for his efforts. He will join a Redbirds squad that went 7-4 last season, and was ranked as high as #14 in NCAA Division I FCS.

“Kelvin is another great example of what a little hard work on and off the field can get you. I have no doubt that he will continue to carry that on to the next level, and be a good representative of Citrus College Football.” said Citrus College Head Football Coach Ron Ponciano. “His enthusiasm and positive attitude were contagious in our program. As a team captain last year, he leaves some big shoes to fill.”
