Glendora, CA (Football) -- After taking over the Citrus College Football program in 2009 on an interim basis, Head Coach Ron Ponciano has now accepted the full-time position as the Citrus College Football Head Coach. Along with Ponciano, Offensive Coordinator and Athletic Recruiter Ben Noonan has been hired to continue with the program.
“We are ecstatic that Ron has decided to stay on as part of our team,” said Dean of Physical Education and Athletics Jody Wise. “Both he and Ben did a fantastic job with our program last year, and I know they will continue to do the same.”
Under the helm of Ponciano, the Citrus College football team improved from their 2008 campaign. The Fighting Owls won two of their final three contests of the 2009 season, and had seven athletes named to the All-Central Conference list, five more than the previous year.
“We are returning a great group of kids next year who are diligent in the class room and in the weight room,” said Ponciano. “The momentum we gained towards the end of the year, and in this off-season, I expect to carry us into a great year next year.”
“Our out-of-season program and recruiting this year has us further along this year than we were last year,” said Noonan. “I look forward to what the upcoming season has in store for us.”
