Claremont, CA (Track & Field) -- The Citrus College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field team’s opened up their 2012 season on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers. The Owls had a number of standout performances, with sophomore thrower Chelsea Deutschlander leading the way with a top six finish in four events and three personal best marks.
Deutschlander’s best finish of the day came in the hammer throw where she finished 3rd out of 12 competitors. Oddly enough, the hammer was the only event in which she didn’t come up with a personal best mark, throwing for a distance of 34.14 meters. Deutschlander also finished 6th out off 11 in the discus (30.21M), 5th out of 15 in the shot put (9.57M), and 5th out of 17 in the javelin (30.82M). All three were personal bests for the sophomore.

Her time in the 200 was 1/100th of a second off her personal best mark last season.
On the men’s side, it was a pair of sophomores and a freshman who led the superlatives. Sophomore Jimmy Aviles picked up where he left off in the 200M Dash with a time of 22.27 seconds. Aviles finished 6th out of 46 racers. Sophomore James Francis had his best showing in the high jump where he finished second out of eight jumpers. Francis cleared a height of 1.80M.
