COURSE INTRODUCTION
Probably the best way to get a sense of the course and its requirements is to read over the information posted on the Announcement, Syllabus and Assignment links located on the left side of this page.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
The syllabus will give you an idea of how your grade will be determined, along with other essentials such as required texts and contact information. You will be asked to do about twenty to fifty pages of reading per week, and you will need to turn in eight mini-lecture essays that range from about two to three pages in length, along with a final exam essay. The semester will go by fast, so make sure to organize your calendar and try to stay ahead of the work.
Your final grade will also be based on discussion and participation. Discussion and participation will come through an asynchronous discussion board. Our History 108 course will have its discussion board hosted on Blackboard. See below for how to log on to Blackboard.
HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR LOGGING INTO YOUR BLACKBOARD COURSE
Blackboard is the online learning system used for many online courses at Citrus College. To log into Blackboard click the logo to the left or use the following link: http://citruscollege.blackboard.com (student accounts will be available the first day of class). If you need assistance, go to the Getting Started page for more information about logging on to Blackboard.
Logging on to Blackboard requires a login and password. Your username is your Citrus College student ID: CC0-31-2345 (example only). The password for all students is your Wingspan pin.
Example login information for a student with ID: CC0-31-2345:
Username: cc0312345 (no dashes, use zero not the letter "o")
Password: 112285 (example only, use your Wingspan pin)
Once in the Blackboard system, you can update your personal information, and change your password. Be sure to include your email address or your instructor will not be able to reach you.
The login procedure may not be operational until the first day of distance ed classes. After this date if you still cannot log on to Blackboard, please contact the Distance Education office by phone or email.
INSTRUCTOR CONTACT
This is a demanding course and I think you will find it to be much more difficult than a traditional history course. I strongly advise that you seriously consider whether the online environment and the rigorous nature of the course will suit your learning style. If you have any questions regarding the course and its requirements and expectations, please contact me at bwaddington@citruscollege.edu
Details regarding the course are set forth in the class website (see below). When you go there, pay particular attention to the syllabus section and the assignment section.
- Update email on WingSpan so it will transfer to Blackboard
- Your WingSpan ID becomes your Blackboard Username
- Your WingSpan PIN number (six digits only) becomes your Blackboard password
- To change these on Blackboard requires you change them on WingSpan
- Data will be transferred from WingSpan to Blackboard on a regular basis
Once you get to the Blackboard welcome page, click on the History of the United States Since 1877 course link on the right, and you will go to the course site. Familiarize yourself with the course site and if you have any questions please email your instructor with your concerns. Get your textbook and get started with your initial assignments. A major key to your success in this course will be keeping up with both the reading and other assignments.
If you have a disability documented by a physician or other appropriate professional and wish to discuss academic accommodations, please contact the DSP&S office at (626) 914-8675.
