MY CITRUS STORY – Stefnie Huth

As if we are now, and later we shall be.

In retrospect, I thought my high school experience was difficult because I had been diagnosed with a learning disability. While I succeeded in sports and a variety of extracurricular activities, I struggled with academics. After much trauma, my parents and I decided to homeschool and supplement my home studies with community college classes. That’s how I first arrived at Citrus College at age sixteen.

I was placed into basic skills classes, such as English 40 and Reading 40. Rather than being labeled a student with a “problem,” I encountered professors who focused on helping me learn how to learn. It was exactly what I needed.  As I learned how to study, I found myself getting better grades and gaining academic confidence. I started earning As in classes. For the first time in my life I felt smart, and there’s no substitute for that feeling.

I’ve since transferred to Marymount College and my focus is on pursuing a double major in global studies and political science. I’ve also become increasingly interested in business and joined business associations in both Manhattan Beach and Rancho Palos Verdes.

If it wasn’t for Citrus College and all the amazing professors there, I would not be in the position I am today. Citrus gave me the confidence and the learning strategies I needed to succeed.

Thank you, Citrus!
